Real Madrid 5-2 Celta Vigo (AET): Player ratings as Endrick moves Los Blancos into Copa del Rey quarter-finals Real Madrid led 2-0 with eight minutes of normal time remaining Celta Vigo scored twice late on to force extra time Endrick and Fede Valverde struck in the closing

Fresh from Sunday's chastening Supercopa de Espana defeat to Barcelona, Madrid headed into the midweek cup tie wounded. The capital club landed the first blow, taking a first-half lead through a brilliant individual goal from Kylian Mbappe, who continues to improve with each outing in all-white. Vinicius Junior doubled Madrid's advantage within three minutes of the restart, finishing off a crisp forward thrust that involved all three members of Madrid's attacking trio. However, Celta Vigo would not go down without a fight.

Jonathan Bamba equalized for the visitors in the 83rd minute as Pablo Duran gobbled up Eduardo Camavinga's sloppy touch on the edge of his own box and squared for his fellow substitute. Bamba then won a stoppage-time penalty for Celta, getting a toe to the ball ahead of Raul Asencio who clattered into the Ivorian international. Former Barcelona full-back Marcos Alonso - whose grandfather Marquitos was a five-time European Cup winner with Madrid - coolly converted to force extra time.

With a penalty shootout on the horizon, Endrick electrified the Bernabeu with a thunderous drive. The much-maligned Brazilian has repeatedly been linked with a move away and offered a precious few minutes by Ancelotti, but dug his under-pressure manager out of the hole with a late go-ahead goal on Thursday night. Fede Valverde, an undisputed Ancelotti favorite confirmed Madrid's passage into the quarter-finals before Endrick grabbed his second of the evening with an impish flick. Madrid could face Barcelona in the next round but will not come up against defending cup champions Athletic Club, who were knocked out on Thursday.

Arsenal 2-1 Tottenham Hotspurs Stats: Gunners Bounce Back by Continuing Unbeaten Home Derby Run. Arsenal fought back to win the London Derby.

Top Story

LONDON: Arsenal was behind early in the first half but managed to turn the game around just before the halftime break to beat rivals Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 and regain the second place on the Premier League table.

Heung-min Son netted at the start of the first half but Arsenal answered two times before the halftime whistle, chances were wasted by both teams in the energetic, physical second half of the Derby.

In the Derby at Emirates Stadium London, Spurs took the lead through Son Heung-min but Dominic Solanke’s own goal leveled the game before Leandro Trossard won it for Arsenal. Spurs have only won one in their last 8 Premier League games. The 5-0 win against bottom-of-the-table Southampton. Five of the matches in that run resulted in defeat only Leicester and Southampton have earned fewer points than Spurs since the start of December last year. The Gunners on the other hand are on a 12-match unbeaten home run in the league, with nine wins and drawing three times of those games at Emirates Stadium. And therefore, they are the only Premier League club to remain unbeaten at home this season so far.

Former United boss Eric ten Heng visits European giants after being sacked from United

Erik Ten Hag 'constant visit' European giants after Man Utd sacked him Erik Ten Hag was fired as Man Utd manager in October after poor performance started the season Dutchman won two trophies in two years but was always fighting to keep his job Ten Hag is understood to be a consistent visitor to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund Erik Ten Hag was relieved of his Man Utd duties in October Erik Ten Hag was released from his Man Utd duties in October Erik Ten Hag has frequently visited Borussia Dortmund since being sacked as Manchester United manager - but the Bundesliga giants have no current future to replace Nuri Sahin, reports in Germany claim.

Ten Hag was ousted from his position at Old Trafford in October after a late 2-1 defeat to West Ham United left the Red Devils 14th in the Premier League table with four losses from their opening nine matches - they are still in that spot almost three months on. The Dutchman remains out of work and hasn't yet been in contact with any major jobs, so news of his visits to Dortmund will certainly pique the interest of onlookers. Sky Germany notes that Ten Hag was in attendance for Dortmund's recent 3-2 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, where he was accompanied by marketing director Carsten Cramer and even had a conversation with technical director Sven Militant , formerly of Arsenal.

Indeed, Sammer once hired Ten Hag to work as Bayern Munich's reserve team coach and wanted to employ the 54-year-old as Germany's Under-21 boss when he worked for the national team federation.

There is, however, no suggestion at this point that Ten Hag could be in the frame to replace current manager Nuri Sahin, although the pressure is on the former midfielder to lift Dortmund up the Bundesliga table from their current position of ninth. Dortmund reached last season's Champions League final under the management of Eden Terzic, but he opted to walk away from the club 12 days later. Sahin has been unable to continue that progress and will find his job under further scrutiny if the gap to qualify for next year's Champions League becomes too great – currently, Dortmund trails fourth-place Leipzig by five points

Joshua Zirkzee scored the winner as a 10-man Manchester United beat Arsenal in a thrilling encounter to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup.

United had to play with 10 players for over an hour after Diogo Dalot was shown a second yellow card, having mistimed a tackle on Arsenal midfielder Mikel Merino. Manchester United took the lead through a Bruno Fernandes goal in the 52nd minute after Alejandro Garnacho took advantage of a Gabriel slip and crossed for Fernandes to curl the ball into the top corner.

Dalot was sent off in the 61st minute after his tackle and Arsenal were level just two minutes later when center-back Gabriel volleyed in from inside the area. The Gunners then had a massive chance to take the lead when Kai Havertz was adjudged to have been brought down by Harry Maguire in the box and referee Andrew Madley awarded a penalty. Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard then stepped up but Altay Bayindir dived to his left to push away the ball and keep the scores level.

United were made to defend throughout extra time as Arsenal looked for ways to take the lead with their numerical advantage. But Arteta's side couldn’t find a way through and Havertz had his penalty saved by Bayindir before Zirkzee sent David Raya the wrong way to win the shootout. The result means Arsenal have exited the FA Cup in the third round for the third time in four seasons. United will get to find out their next opponent in the fourth round when the draw is made later on Sunday evening.

It has been just 39 days since the two sides last met in the Premier League, it was Ruben Amorim's 4th game in charge of United, when the Gunners came out winners with a 2-0 When Manchester United went to the Emirates at the beginning of December, Amorim was still trialing things as he was still getting to know his squad. But this time, Manchester United traveled to London after a positive performance in their 2-2 draw with Liverpool in the Premier League, and the work Amorim is doing is starting to show. The United boss has hinted about how the congested fixture list has given him little time on the training pitch, with just days between the fixture at Anfield and this FA Cup. But his coaching seems to be taking effect as United showed resilience and structure to their play.

Zirkzee scoring the winning penalty will always be a great moment for all after the striker was booed by supporters when he was substituted in the first half of United's defeat by Newcastle at the end of December. Manchester United came into this game without a win in their previous five matches in the league, and Amorim will hope this is the start of a form that can get United ahead under his management. Mikel Arteta would have hoped that his team could build momentum during these games, but two home defeats in a row have done little to lift morale.

Exclusive: Arsenal in a battle with Manchester United for exceptional 21- year-old.

It looks like we can expect Arsenal to be one the sides trying to bring him to English football, along with Manchester United and Manchester city, according to the Daily Mail though the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich also want him. Arsenal are currently a little too reliant on Bukayo Saka to provide their team with that bit of magic and spark up front, but Wirtz would be another real game-changer for the north London club.

With brilliant technique, intelligence and an eye for goal, Wirtz is a real flair player who’d be a big hit with the fans at the Emirates Stadium, who have grown used to watching stylish attacking football in recent decades. Famous for entertainers like Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, Mesut Ozil, and now the likes of Saka and Martin Odegaard, Wirtz really seems ideal to continue that legacy.

BOURNEMOUTH SCORE 3 AGAINST MAN UTD TO RECORD FAMOUS WIN

Top Story

Bournemouth slummed Manchester United to get a 3-0 Premier League win at Old Trafford for the second season in a row, leaving the Red Devils in the bottom half of the table at Christmas for the first time since 1989

In a sign of their contrasting fortunes, Bournemouth made the long trip to Old Trafford with a three point buffer to the struggling Manchester side, who saw a potential trophy opportunity disappear in Thursday’s EFL Cup quarterfinal loss to Tottenham Hotspurs. Following a quiet start to the contest, the Manchester side faith would have been frustrated to see their side concede first for a sixth consecutive game, as Bournemouth took full advantage of a set piece situation just before the half time mark. The optimism that might have been gotten by a last gasp 2-1 derby win at Manchester City last weekend has disappeared for United, which lost 4-3 at Tottenham in the English League Cup quarterfinals on Thursday.

What’s Happening to Pep And Mancity?

Top Story

Pep Guardiola points out what's wrong with Man City as his side City fell to another defeat on Saturday as they were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed what he feels the key issues are with his team following their latest defeat.

There has been much speculation about what went wrong with City, who have gone from title winners to a team sorely lacking in cohesion. Following their latest defeat, Man City are sitting in sixth place in the Premier League and are nine points behind leaders Liverpool, with two games in hand. Guardiola admitted his team “struggled” at Villa Park and conceded that the team’s pressing was “not good enough”. There has been mild debate over whether Guardiola will want to make an early exit from man city speculation that has often been dismissed as soon as it has been raised. It will be just a month on Sunday since he penned a two-year deal with the club. Former City defender Joleon Lescott is one of those to rubbish any suggestion that Guardiola could resign any time soon, despite his current inability to find a solution to his team’s current problems. They have now won just one of their last 12 games in all competitions.

Several factors contribute to City's slump:

  • Lack of creativity: City have scored only 10 goals in their last nine Premier League games, with Erling Haaland taking responsibility for his scoring slump.
  • Inability to control counter attacks: City's vulnerability to counter attacks has been exposed, with Aston Villa's physicality and pace causing problems.
  • Rodri's absence: The team has struggled without Rodri, but Guardiola can't blame his absence alone for their poor form.

Guardiola has tried different tactics, but his team's inconsistency persists. With a tough schedule ahead, City must find a solution quickly to salvage their season.
